The face behind the lens: Taralea Cutler, Principal Photographer

When I was studying painting, I would set a scene, position people and objects within an interesting location, light it, and then photograph it, fully intending to paint the perfect picture later. But the more time I spent developing those photos in the darkroom, the more I fell in love with the art of photography—the ability to capture a scene, a moment in time.

And this feeling of being a fly on the wall, fully absorbed in a moment that is so precious and being able to deliver it to couples and families in the form of a memory is what keeps my day-to-day so rewarding. The fact that my husband is also a very talented photographer doesn't hurt either, after all, I'm known to be a little competitive.

My best piece of advice when being photographed is this: Relax, enjoy the nows, and have some fun. Being one's self is immediately apparent through the lens, and feeling comfortable with who you are and where you are make for fantastic photos.

At the end of every day, I love this work. I always have.
